Eid-el-Kabir: Residents appeal to NNPC to provide PMS

Lagos – Some residents in Lagos have appealed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) to provide adequate petroleum products to depots in Lagos during the Eid-el- Kabir festival.
The esidents made the appeal in separate interviews on Wednesday against the backdrop of persistent fuel scarcity in Lagos.
They said that fuel scarcity would make it difficult for residents to travel and celebrate with their families and friends during the festivities.
Mr Ibrahim Hassan, a community leader in Ijeshatedo, said that scarcity of the product would prevent people from travelling to their home towns to celebrate.
“If you go to motor parks, transport fares are on the high side due to the scarcity of petroleum products.
“If this continues, people will not be able to travel to their states to celebrate with their relations,” he said
Hassan urged the NNPC to increase supplies to the depots so that the supply to petrol stations would improve.
Mr Adetunji Adeyemi, a resident in Surulere, said that the persistent scarcity of petrol in the area had made operators to increase their pump price to N110 per litre.
“All the petrol stations around Ojuelegba and Lawanson areas are selling the product higher than the official pump price.
“In the evening, they prefer to sell into kegs and jerry cans and by the following morning, you would see touts selling four litres at N1, 200.
Adeyemi urged the Department Petroleum Resources (DPR) to improve on its surveillance of the petrol stations so as to bring to book those found selling the products above the official price.
Mr Tunde Akinfenwa , who resides at the Obalende, urged the management of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) to intervene by repairing the damaged pipeline at Arepo in Ogun State.
Akinfenwa also suggested that the government should provide security for officials repairing the damaged pipeline.
Mr Tayo Odeleye, the Manager of Mobil Petrol Station at Ojuelegba, said that petrol scarcity in Lagos was due to the delay in getting supplies.
“After requesting for the product, one would wait for two or three days before a truck will come and supply you.
“This is what is responsible for the scarcity of the product in Lagos,” he said.
He urged the NNPC to increase supply of petrol to Lagos to ease the transportation difficulties being encountered by residents.
Mr Fidel Pepple, NNPC spokesman, had said that NNPC had directed DPR and PPMC to identify marketers diverting petroleum products outside Lagos.
He assured Lagos residents of the commitment of NNPC to restoring normal supply to Lagos. (NAN)
