Robbers kill 5 policemen, 2 others in Ogun •We'll track down criminals - Amosun

It was a black Monday in Ogun State as five policemen lost their lives to armed robbers at Oke-Itoku and Ibafo areas of the state, while two civilians were  also killed.The policemen, who were said to have been five in number,  received a call from an unknown number around 2.00a.m. about a robbery attempt at Oke-Itoku, unfortunately the robbers, numbering 15, opened fired on them.
Three out of the five policemen died on the spot, while two are still battling for survival at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta.
Confirming the incident, state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, said a suspect had been arrested in connection with the incident, adding that investigation had begun to unravel the circumstances surrounding it.
Adejobi, also confirmed the killing of the other two  policemen at Ibafo area by suspected armed robbers.
Meanwhile, the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has commiserated with the families of the dead policemen, describing the development as sad.
He stated this during his visit to the hospital where the remaining policemen are receiving treatments.
Senator Amosun also directed security agencies to track down the criminals whose activities led to the death of the five policemen and the two civilians and bring them to justice.
While assuring citizens of Ogun of adequate security, Amosun said he had ordered the police and other security agencies to fish out the bandits.
“We have notified all hospitals to report any case of gun-shot injuries. This is an isolated incident, there will be no comfort zone for robbers in this state,” he said.
He also praised the bravery of the dead police officers, noting that in spite of the ambush laid for them by the robbers they fought gallantly.
Amosun said the officers would not die in vain, promising that  government would take care of the families of the deceased and those that sustained injuries.
The governor promised to asssit families of the deceased and ensure that those receiving treatments are adequately taken care of, while he assured the people on adequate security of life and property.
