Prince Oyinlola and Ogbeni Aregbesola, Osun State Governor
Former Osun State governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has  said that he was not surprised at his reported indictment by a panel set up by the current state government to probe his administration.
He, however, asked Nigerians to note that the panel did not say in its report that he stole public funds.
Prince Oyinlola, in a statement on Thursday by his media aide, Ayo Olaiya, said he had read all the newspaper versions of what the panel submitted to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, saying the report, with its choice of words, tallied with statements made by the former governor while giving evidence before it.
Prince Oyinlola, who addressed all the issues raised in the report, took exception to certain words used by the panel which he described as insulting and politically motivated as the facts on ground had no bearing with the conclusions of the panel.
“The panel said we heeded the advice of the speaker to obtain a loan. This is wrong. It was the resolution of the House of Assembly made up of 15 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members and 11 Action congress of Nigeria (ACN) members that was implemented. The borrowing followed due process.
“They also said we borrowed at a time when there was no emergency situation. Does a government need to wait for an emergency situation to source funds to implement its budget? There were unpaid certificates on contracts executed, counterpart funds in respect of projects jointly funded with international agencies which could not be paid due to lack of funds. There was general lack of funds to finance capital projects,” he said.
