‘PDP won’t readmit snakes, reptiles’

PDP National Chairman, Dr Bamanga Tukur
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has said it will not readmit those it described as snakes and reptiles to the party.
The party said though it was desirous to readmit those who left the party following one grievance or the other, it was not in such a hurry to readmit those who would be of no value to it.
Briefing journalists in Abuja on Sunday, the National Legal Adviser of the party, Mr. Victor Kwon, said among those who left the PDP, there were those returning to the party with the intention to destroy it.
He said, “This party is a large party and capable of accommodating everybody, but just because you want to accommodate everybody does not mean you will accommodate snakes and reptiles.
“You have to be cautions of those you admit. We need people who will build, who will solidify the party, who have the genuine interest of the party and the nation at heart and not just people who would want to come into the party to weaken the party or to cause challenges or disrupt the party.”
On the financial crisis facing the party, Kwon said it would use consultants to collect dues from its members across the country to enhance its revenue base.
He said the party was not satisfied with the level at which its dues were currently being collected from its members.
Meanwhile, governors have called on the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, to recall the sacked state leadership of the party in Adamawa State.
Members of the state chapter of the party were recently dissolved by the party’s National Working Committee and replaced with a caretaker committee.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metu, announced the sacking of the executive, citing Article 31(2) (e) of the amended PDP constitution.
Our correspondent gathered that the PDP governors, led by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Chibuike Amaechi, had appealed to Tukur to reverse the decision.
