Some policemen, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Fegge Police station, Onitsha, Mr John Mark, have arrested a 7-month-old baby boy, his parents and two others over alleged debt of N20,000.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the little Master Uchenna Nwoye was arrested alongside other four suspects at about 2.30 a.m. on November 7 at Ifitedunu in Dunukofia Local Government area of Anambra State over an alleged failure by his father to pay a debt of N20,000 to a woman who he does business with.
However, the police, through the DPO, Fegge, Onitsha, Mr John Mark, said the suspects were arrested in connection with cases of kidnapping and other crimes, saying that his leaving for Dunukofia to carry out the arrest was on the order of his commissioner of police.
Narrating their ordeal to newsmen, mother of the boy, 23-year-old Mrs Ukamaka Nwoye, said they were whisked away by the policemen without any reason or telling them the destination they were being taken to.
Mrs Nwoye said they were fast asleep on Wednesday, November 7, when heavily armed policemen, led by Mr Mark, the Divisional Police Officer, Fegge police station, Onitsha, forcefully opened their door and arrested all the occupants, including the 7-month-old boy.
“On November 7, at 2. 30 a.m, we were all asleep, my husband, my father and younger brother, when suddenly, policemen trooped into our compound and forced their way into our house, arrested us, including my 7-month-old baby. They took us naked to their bus and whisked us away to an unknown place, where we later found out was Fegge police station, Onitsha,” Mrs Nwoye said.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer, Fegge Division, Mr Mark, confirmed the incident and said that the arrest was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ballah Nasarawa, adding that the suspects were arrested in connection to kidnapping.
