NINE
months after he was detained over alleged complicity in the escape of
Boko Haram kingpin, Kabiru Sokoto, former Commissioner of Police in
charge of Special Investi-gations at Zone Seven Police Command, Abuja,
Mr Zakari Biu, has been released from detention.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that Biu was released on the orders of
President Goodluck Jonathan, following the conclusion of investigations
into the escape of Sokoto from a team of police officers detailed by Biu
to search Sokoto’s house in Abaji, for documents relating to the
activities of the Boko Haram sect.
On his release to the police authorities from the Guard’s Brigade
detention facility where he had spent the last nine months, Nigerian
Tribune gathered that the officer told a few sympathisers that former
Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, sacrificed him because he
wanted tenure extension.
Nigerian Tribune saw Zakari Biu in the office of the Deputy Inspector
General of Police, Peter Gana, on Tuesday, waiting for the next
directive on his release.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that for the period Biu was in detention,
neither his wife nor children were allowed to see him, while his house,
located in Jos, Plateau State capital, was vandalised during one of the
crises in the town.
