5 Die In Renewed Cult Clashes In Enugu


Five persons may have been killed in renewed multiple cult clashes that took place in different parts of Enugu in the last one week. Although LEADERSHIP could not ascertain the cause of the clashes, it was gathered that the development might have been caused by struggle for supremacy.
It was gathered that one of the victims of the clash was killed in Achara Layout in Uwani area of Enugu State at the weekend while another, who was shot severally near the popular Artisan Market is now responding to treatment.
Eye witnesses said that the assailants used cars to carry out their operations.
It would be recalled that about four persons, including a suspected former councillor, were killed last August in renewed cult clashes that occurred in different parts of Enugu State.
Meanwhile, the Enugu state command of the Nigeria police said it has commenced“full scale investigation into the alleged shooting incident of somebody identified as Ifeanyi Ogbodo popularly known as Thunder Balogun”.
A statement made available to LEADERSHIP in Enugu by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said that the suspect was “said to have been allegedly shot by yet to be identified gun men in a Toyota Corolla car with registration number CZ261ENU on 22/12/12 at about 1020hrs around Artisan before the traffic light.
He was trekking along the road when the occupants of the said vehicle suddenly sighted him and shot him.
It was however gathered that nothing was removed from him as the quick arrival of men of the Ogui Divisional Police Headquarters saved further havoc as the victim was quickly rushed to University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku- Ozzala where the victim is positively responding to treatment” he stated.
