Allow Women To Dialogue With Boko Haram – Sen. Bent

A former lawmaker, who represented southern senatorial district of Adamawa State at the National Assembly, Senator Grace Folashade Bent, has said women should be given the opportunity to dialogue with the Boko Haram sect as part of efforts to tackle the security problems facing the country.
She said the power of women should not be underestimated when it comes to bringing about peace in any situation, going by the magnitude of wisdom God has endowed them with.
Bent spoke at a dinner and award night organised by the Global Association of Female Attorneys (GAFA) in Abuja on Thursday night, stated that all over the world, she added that the power of women to mediate are now being explored for good.
She said, the  United States of America has in three succession appointed women, Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton as secretary of states in acknowledgement of  women’s power of diplomacy and capacity to mediate in crisis.
‘’Let the government of President Goodluck Jonathan permit women to mediate and dialogue with the Boko Haram sect.
We are their mothers and they would surely listen to us and express their grievances to enable us chart the course for peace.’’
But Bent said that the 35 per cent slot given to women in the political appointments was not enough.
She further stated that more slots should be given to women to  enable for them to carry out their God given roles which invariably would bring about unprecedented development in the nation.
