Gunmen kill 10 in Plateau
NO fewer than 10 persons were killed in Plateau State in the past one week. The spate of killings was however, overshadowed by the indefinite strike embarked upon by local government workers in the state.
The killings, mainly in the Barakin Ladi and Riyom were said to have been carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
In one of such latest cases, a man and his four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were murdered on Friday at Heipang in Barakin Ladi Local Government Area.
Before the Friday killings, suspected Fulani herdsmen were said to have attacked residents of Gura in Riyom Local Government Area, killing one person and injuring seven others.
Confirming the incidents, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Emmanuel Abuh, a deputy superintendent, said the new commissioner of police, Mr. Chris Olakpe, had deployed a crack force in the affected communities to fish out the perpetrators.
Abuh said, “Very soon we will see an end to these killings, especially with the measures the new commissioner of police has put in place.”
