Lagos monarch urges investment in education

The monarch of Odomola, Epe, Lagos State, Oba Sikiru Taiwo, has urged philanthropists and other well-meaning Nigerians to invest in education for the benefit of the youth and the nation.
A statement on Tuesday said the monarch spoke during the inauguration of a 1,500 capacity multi-purpose hall, which was donated to Odomola Secondary School, Epe, by the family of the late Chief Amzat Adebowale.
The hall was presented to the school as part of the commemoration of the fourth anniversary of Adebowale’s death.
Taiwo said, “Education, being the best legacy that generation can leave behind for the next, must not be left for government alone.
“Philanthropists and well meaning individuals should  invest in projects that develop education in their domain as these would not only benefit the students, but the communities and the nation in general.”
The Chief Imam of Epeland,  Alhaji Agbara Ojo, who extolled the virtues of the late Adebowale, called on well placed Nigerians to develop educational institutions and their communities
The Tutor-General, Education District III of Lagos State, Mrs. Wonuola Idris, described the gesture as laudable.
She said the hall would be used for the benefit of students and the school in general, as well as the community.
She said, “When the late Chief Adebowale was alive, he invested time and money on Odomola Secondary School in particular. It is our sincere wish that his children will not relent in carrying on the good works of their father.”
Idris said while government would continue to improve on the standard of education in the state, helping hands from individuals, companies, and philanthropic organisations would bring difference to the improvement of education in the state.
The eldest daughter of the late philanthropist, Mrs. Aribike Arigbabu, said the family would continue to do what it could to contribute to the development of the society, just like their late father.
