ABUJA—Precious Gbenol, Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to the
President on Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, yesterday, said to
properly carry out developmental projects across the country next year, N120 billion would be needed by her office.
Speaking in a meeting with members of the House of Representatives
Committee on MDGs, Gbenol said the MDGs office had received most of the
releases for projects contained in the 2012 budget, adding that while
some of the projects would be completed this year, others would be implemented in 2013.
She also disclosed that N120 billion would be required in 2013 for
priority projects in key sectors, including education, health, youth
development, lands and housing, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, among other
projects.
The SSA noted that such projects would be spread across 250 local
government areas and appealed to members of the National Assembly to
endeavour to commission completed projects so Nigerians could easily
access them for better living.
She further stressed that N87 billion of the 2013 budget would be
spent on special projects such as boreholes and others spread across the
360 federal constituencies in the country.
Members of the committee .stressed the need for Federal Government to improve the living standard of rural dwellers through the implementation of the MDGs projects across the country.
Bimbo Daramola, Deputy Chairman, House Committee on MDGs, told MDGs promoters to ensure projects were evenly distributed.
Daramola expressed the need for effective utilisation of funds appropriated to the MDG office.
