SSS Arrests 20-Year-old Boy over Alleged Threat to Life

policeThe State Security Service (SSS) in Bauchi State has arrested a 20-year-old boy, Jibrin Magaji, who resides in Gamawa Local Government Area of the state over threats to kill the Senator representing Bauchi North Senatorial District, Senator Babayo Garba Gamawa, and his daughter if they did not give him money after he sent a ‘friend request’ to the senator on his facebook page.
A security source in the SSS confirmed the arrest of the suspect to THISDAY, saying: “The suspect was arrested over the weekend, after we received a report that the man sent a friend request to Senator Gamawa, who was a one-time Bauchi State Deputy Governor, and Gamawa accepted his friend’s request and the boy also procured a SIM card he used. He used the SIM card to send threat messages to the daughter of Senator Gamawa, threatening to kill her if she did not give him the money requested.”
The source added that: “Senator Gamawa reported the matter to SSS, who investigated it and arrested the suspect inside a toilet in Gamawa, where he hid himself. The suspect confessed that it was poverty that led him into that, and the suspect will be handed over to police for further investigation and prosecution.”
He advised Nigerians to stop accepting friend request from the people they don’t know on the pages of facebook and from other social media pages.
Effort to speak with Gamawa proved abortive as he was said to have travelled out of the country, but, a close friend and associate of his, confirmed the incident to THISDAY.
He said: “Since we handed the matter to security, we don’t want to publicise it but the boy said if Gamawa did not give him money he will kill him like the way he killed late Lele Raga.”
