Abacheke community sues Imo govt

By CHIDI NKWOPARA
OWERRI—Abacheke community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, has dragged the state government to Oguta High Court, praying it to stop Governor Rochas Okorocha from utilising the N400 million released to the state by the Federal Government to attend to the needs of those sacked by flood.
Similarly, the community chased out the team that went there to fumigate the flood ravaged area, especially the homes of the most affected flood victims.
The aggrieved people also prayed for an order dissolving the committee set up by the state government, which did not have a representative from Abacheke community, Egbema.
Acting through their counsel, Mr. Israel Onyeoyibo, the community sought a declaration that the committee did not have a right to share relief materials meant for flood victims without verifying the extent of the devastation in each community.
They prayed the court to order immediate handover their share of the relief fund from the Federal Government, group or individual to Egbema people, through the committee set up by the royal fathers of the various autonomous communities led by Eze Iwuogu.
Meanwhile, 15 out of the 23 communities affected by the recent flood disaster in the state have so far been fumigated, as part of the package promised by the federal government.
