Four traders, including a woman, were on Monday arraigned
before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly assaulting
three state high court officials and a police officer.
The accused — Sunday Ovubudioh, 30; Dele Bashiru, 35; Sunday Anipe,
35 and Bolanle Ademola, 37 — are facing four counts bordering on
conspiracy, unlawful obstruction and multiple assault.
The accused, all traders at Tejuoso market, Surulere, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Philip Osijale, told the court that the accused
had on Jan. 8 obstructed the court’s sheriffs while performing their
duties.
He said the accused allegedly occupied a part of the market which a court ruling had given to another person.
Osijale named those assaulted as Femi Ojora, Musa Rafiu and Oloyede Oluwatobi as well as ASP Omoniyi Ilesanmi.
“They used sticks and broken bottles to attack the officials and the
ASP while they were performing their lawful duties,’’ he alleged.
He said the offences which were committed at No. 2, Olajuwon St.,
Surulere, contravened Sections 117, 172 and 409 of the Criminal Code,
Laws of Lagos State.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Gbajumo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N30, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned to Jan. 30 for mention.
