I Borrowed Him My Dowry And He Hasn’t Paid Back; Wife Tells Court As Husband Files For Divorce

A 33-year-old housewife, Mrs Helen Monago, has told an Igando Customary Court, Lagos that her husband’s promise to return the money she borrowed him to pay her dowry and for their wedding has not been fulfilled. Helen Monago said this while testifying in a petition filed by her husband, Mr Johnson Monago, seeking the dissolution of their marriage. She said that she borrowed him the money because of his poor financial status then.
Testifying further, Helen said Mr Munago is a drunk, adding that he was fond of beating her whenever she queried his late night movements.
In his response, the petitioner admitted that the respondent borrowed him part of the money used for their wedding but that he never promised to pay back.
“I want the marriage dissolved because I don’t like her again,” Monago told the court.
He told the court to dissolve the marriage because his wife fights him always and doesn’t respect his parents. He also accused her of going out and coming back when she likes.
The case has been adjourned till 2 February.
