In
a move that caught many people including his aides and the media by
surprise, President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday made an unscheduled
visit to the country’s premier Police College in Ikeja, Lagos.Sources said the President was on his way to a summit of the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) and diverted the presidential plane to Lagos to visit the college, whose sorry state had been attracting media attention in the last few weeks.
A Lagos based television station, Channels Television, has been showing the dilapidated state of the college.
Though details of what transpired during the visit were sketchy at the time of filing this report, the police authorities were caught unawares by the august visitor as they went about the usual routine oblivious of the fact that President Jonathan was there.
Sources within the college stated that Jonathan, who inspected the college with some of the top brass of the police command, sought explanation on the sorry state of facilities with no sufficient answers.
Some of the places inspected by the president before he left the school included the student hostels where he saw the toilets and rooms in bad shape.
