Asaba—DELTA State chapter of ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
has called on the Chief Adolo Okotie-Eboh-led Action Congress of
Nigeria, ACN, in the state to join hands with Governor Emmanuel
Uduaghan’s administration to move the state to greater heights rather
than engage in unwarranted outcry over delay in conducting local
government elections.
State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Mr. Deinghan Macaulay, in a
statement in Asaba, yesterday, said: “The state government is not in any
way delaying the conduct of local government elections in the state.
Indeed, screened and confirmed members of Delta State Independent
Electoral Commission, DSIEC, will be inaugurated by Governor Uduaghan
after which the members of the Commission will conduct the local
government elections.
“The outcry from ACN was a distraction because Democratic Peoples
Party, DPP, had dragged the state government before a state high court
sitting in Otu-Jeremi, over appointment and inauguration of local
government Caretaker Transition Committees in the state, in which the
court ruled in favour of the state, saying that there can not be any
vacuum in the councils.”
