Ugolor tasks Jonathan on Oyerinde’s murder

UgolorEXECUTIVE director of the Africa network for environment and economic justice (ANEEJ), Rev David Ugolor has enjoined President Goodluck Jonathan to constitute an independent committee to review and reconcile the conflicting reports by the State Security Service (SSS) and the police in a bid to unmask the killers of one of Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s aide, Comrade Olaitan Oyerinde.
Ugolor’s call came barely a week after Oshiomhole outrightly accused the police of complicity in the killing of Oyerinde who was his principal secretary on May 4, 2012.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja Tuesday, Ugolor tasked Jonathan, the National Assembly and the civil society to unravel the mystery behind the controversial police report on the murder which was at variance with that of the SSS.
He said: “I want Nigerians to challenge the Inspector General of police (IGP) and the police authorities to tell Nigerians whether it was true that Danjuma Musa and Murtala Usman – the two accused armed robbers are still alive, they are in local prison  whether it was true they were in detention on April 24 and between April 24 – May 24, they were not granted bail. And we know that from the police command to Oyerinde’s house is about one kilometre.
“How did they fly? What happened? Who escorted them to Olaitan’s house? Who brought out the guns that were in police custody since April 24 last year? These are questions that are demanding response from the police.”
Ugolor who wasdetained and later released after it was found that he had no hand in the murder of Olaitan added: “The reason why some of us who are friends of Oyerinde are insisting on this is that there must be justice. It is not about Olaitan Oyerinde, David Ugolor, it is not about Adams Oshiomhole, it is about the project of Nigeria. It is about whether we can have justice in Nigeria. Can we have transformation in Nigeria to be free from this framing of innocent citizens.
“The president should urgently constitute an independent committee to review the police report, particularly against the background that the SSS came out three days after I was arrested to display those who were responsible for the murder of Olaitan and the suspects paraded confirmed they have no knowledge of me. And all the items stolen in Olaitan’s house were recovered in their hands and the suspects were handed to the police and the same police ended up charging them for armed robbery.”
