A
45-year-old man, Taofeek Kolawole, was, on Friday, arrested by men of
the Ogun State Police Command over the alleged rape of a 12-year-old
girl.
Saturday Tribune learnt that the suspect, a security guard with a Chinese company, was said to have lured the girl into his room and took advantage of her.
It was also gathered that the suspect promised the victim (names
withheld) a mobile phone. The incident happened when the girl went to
fetch water at Kemta Housing Estate in Abeokuta.
Nemesis caught up with him when the victim’s mother searched the
neighbourhood to look for her child who had not returned home after
several hours. She was said to have raised an alarm which attracted her
neighbours. They saw her bucket at the entrance of the security post and
after forcing the door open, they found the girl.
The suspect was handed over to the police while the girl was taken to
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, for medical examination.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirming
the story, said, “The suspect is in our custody. We have also taken the
victim to the hospital for medical examination.”
