Lagos trains 810 teachers

The Lagos State government has commenced the training of 810 teachers on three core subjects at the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) level.
Mr. James Iroko, Assistant Director, Education District 11, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the subjects were English Language, Mathematics, and Biology/Basic Science.
Iroko said the teachers were drawn from his district, which included public secondary schools in Ikorodu, Somolu and Kosofe Local Government Areas.
He said that the three-day training,  which ran from February 19 to February 21, was aimed at improving the performance of students from the state in the 2013 SSCE.
Adding that the training was organised for the teachers because of the poor performance recorded in the subjects during the 2012 SSCE examination in the district.
He said that 332 English teachers, 147 Biology /Basic Science teachers and 331 Mathematics teachers had participated in the course.
“This training is to empower teachers on quality teaching and improve performance in the three core subjects in the forthcoming SSCE examination.
“Last year, many of our students performed below expectation and we want to improve on their results this year,” he said.
