The N25 million donated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to
victims of the St Theresa Madalla bomb blast has been finally disbursed
to the victims of the blast after an acceptable sharing formular had
been adopted for the church and the victims.
The Niger state government that served as mediator disbursed the N25
million on Monday where the church got N5 million while 47 other
victims whose properties were destroyed by the blast shared the balance
based on the level of loss incurred on their property.
Disbursing the money, the Director General of the Niger state
Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Mohammed Shaba, disclosed
that the delay in the disbursement of the money was due to a
communication gap and procedural clearance needed to ensure that the
victims got the needed attention required.
He explained that from the anlysis some of the victims got as high as
1 million naira as other victims got N500, 000 with the least getting
N350, 000.
The CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who was represented at the
disbursement by the Minna Branch Manager of CBN, Alhaji Mohammed
Danguzau said he was delighted that the donation has reached to the
victims.
While admonishing the beneficiaries of the donations to make good
use of the money to ensure that they re -established their various
businesses disrupted by the blast he reiterated that the delay was
caused by communication error.
The Victims in their response presented by Mr. Emmanuel Ehiche
expressed their gratitude to the CBN for the gesture and that the effort
of the CBN was highly appreciated.
In his response the head of St Theresa Catholic Church , Rev. Father
Isaac Achi all the victims should accept whatever amount of money that
was given to them and avoid any form of bitterness while commending CBN
for the kind gesture.
