Police arrest mastermind of Lagos explosion

Police arrest mastermind of Lagos explosion
The suspect who planted the explosive that killed Chief Oladele Pius, Chairman of the Miracle Sand Association, an umbrella body of sand dredgers under Festac Link Bridge in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, has been arrested.
The suspect, simply identified as William, was arrested yesterday morning after an intelligence gathering by police officers attached to Area “E” Command, Lagos.
It was learnt from police sources that the suspect is one of the dredgers working under Chief Oladele at the site where the incident took place on Monday.
However, investigations into the matter is still on-going to ascertain whether the suspect committed the act in connivance with others or not and to establish the reason why he committed the crime.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, said she was not aware that anybody had been arrested in connection with the explosion.
It will be recalled that relatives and friends of the deceased had alleged that the explosion was not accidental, but deliberate; claiming that the deceased had escaped two assassination attempts in recent past.
They also berated the police for describing the explosion as an accident caused by electrical fault.
As at yesterday, sympathisers are still trooping into Chief Oladele’s residence at Lake View Estate, Lagos, but journalists were barred from gaining access to the building.
