indications have emerged that the newly formed political party,
All Progressives Congress, will get its new logo, manifesto and
constitution this week. Parties that formed merger have also expressed
their readiness to forfeit their individual identities to APC.
APC is the product of a merger by All Nigeria Peoples Party, Congress
for Progressive Change, Action Congress of Nigeria and a faction of the
All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Speaking to our correspondent on the telephone on Friday, the
National Publicity Secretary, ACN, Lai Mohammed said, “There are lots of
scepticism and pessimism about APC but we are proving critics wrong.
Against all odds, we have a name; against all odds, our governors have
had three successful meetings; against all odds, our merger committee
set up sub-committees on logo, constitution and manifesto.
“By next week, all these sub-committees will submit their reports and we’ll launch our logo, manifesto and constitution.”
He said the polarisation of APGA would not deter APC from absolving individuals and groups interested in the party.
He added that ACN was set to lose its identity and certificate to get
APC approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“Where it is impossible to include all in APGA to join APC, we will
welcome individuals and groups. Merger is not about political parties,
it’s about people. APGA has two governors and one of them is committed
to APC; I think that is remarkable,” he said.
