Lawmakers seek improved living condition for lepers


Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling for improvement in the living conditions and social status of inmates of lepers’ colonies in the state.

Members of the House including Adeyinka Mafe, Kunle Oluomo, Olusola Sonuga, Daisi Elemide and Dotun Fasanya  in their contributions, urged the concerned authorities to expedite action increment in the allowances paid the inmates.
The lawmakers also appealed to the authorities to settle the backlog of arrears owed them
They argued that the stipend being paid to the lepers in the state was too meagre for their upkeep and urged the relevant tiers of government to effect an upward review.
The assembly members also called on public-spirited individuals andcorporate organisations to complement the government’s efforts at improving the lives of the inmates by providing social and other infrastructural facilities at the colonies.
Moving the motion, Olayiwola Ojodu lamented the deplorable condition of the colonies, particularly the Iberekodo lepers colony in Abeokuta North Local Government Area.
