NSCDC impounds trucks laden with adulterated fuel

Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Thursday impounded three trucks bearing adulterated fuel along Benin-Ore Road in Odigbo Local Government of the state.

The Command also impounded a Volvo Saloon car, laden with 45 30-litre kegs, with each containing adulterated fuel, while the agency’s six persons were arrested in connection with the crime.
State Commandant of the corps, Mr. Waheed Poopola, said the three trucks, each of which contained 33,000 litres of adulterated fuel were arrested by men of the command on surveillance.
He said, “Our boys usually go on their normal surveillance while on duty. They arrested the trucks and one car along Benin-Ore Road. They initially said the fuel was genuine but we later discovered that they were adulterated.”
Popoola also explained that the suspects would be charged to court to explain how they came by the illegal fuel.
One of the suspects, a driver of one of the trucks, Bashir Lawal, confessed that the owner of the trucks and content was one Alhaji Subir in Sokoto State.
He said he was employed by Subir to drive the truck down to Sokoto State, explaining that he did not know how authentic the business was because he was only employed to drive the truck to Sokoto to deliver it to his employers.
He maintained he was oblivious of the content of the trucks. .
Lawal, who claimed that the journey was his first trip since he was employed, said his employers had yet to be contacted over their arrest.
