Police arraign estate agent over alleged N600,000 fraud

Lagos—A 56-year-old estate agent, Segun Alade, was Tuesday, arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court, sitting in Ikeja, for allegedly obtaining N600,000 from one Adesanya Adegbesan, under the pretence of getting him an accommodation.
The defendant who was docked before Magistrate Miss A. O Akinde, is facing two-count charge of fraud and stealing, levelled against him by the police.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi, said the defendantcommitted the offence at 25, Yaya Abatan, Street, Ogba, Lagos.
He told the court that Alade fraudently obtained the money from Mr Adesanya Adegbesan under the pretence of letting a four-bedroom duplex to him.
The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant did not give the apartment to Adegbesan for rent as promised, after he had collected N600,000, payment meant for the apartment.
The prosecutor said the offence committed contravened Section 285 and 409, Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.
However, the defendant, who resides at New Oko Oba Area, Agege, Lagos,  pleaded not guilty to the two-count charges against him, when it was read.
Magistrate Akinde granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She further adjourned the matter to July 15 for mention.
