Flood victims robbed, raped at various camps in Delta

Tragedy struck in some parts of Delta State at the weekend as armed robbers stormed various camps of flood victims and robbed and raped some of them. They also made away with foodstuffs and other valuables.
The incidents took place at the Oleh and Cavegina camps in Warri Metropolis.  Consequently, Delta State government has beefed up security around the various camps to forestall further occurrence.  Meanwhile, relief came to the victims at the weekend when Christians and various charitable organizations donated foodstuffs and cash to cushion the hardship they’re facing.
Addressing thousands of flood victims at Ogbe-Ijoh, General Overseer, Christ Mercyland Ministry, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, told them not to be discouraged, adding that God has a purpose for anything that is happening.  The cleric, who led a team of pastors and hundreds of worshippers to the camp, with eight bags of rice and unspecified amount of money, said the church is very much concerned about the hardship the victims were going through.
“We are following the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, who taught us to be our brother’s keeper. Above all, we should be sympathetic to the plight of our dear ones like these flood victims,” said the cleric, pointing to the beleaguered victims. Fufeyin, with whom was Pastor Lucky Guobadia and other ministers, however, pleaded with hoodlums to stop attacking, robbing and raping the flood victims, adding that they should rather be sympathetic to their plight.
He revealed that similar donations would be given to other camps at Oleh, Olomoro, Kpakiama, Ughelli, Cavegina and Kwale. Similarly, the Baptist Church, Warri, presented relief materials such as bags of rice, beans, rolls of toiletries, clothing, bags of gari and other food items to the flood victims.  One of the leaders of the group,
Rev. Gabriel Aforijuku, said the church decided to help the victims, adding, “We will continue to assist in any area we can to help the flood victims. “We have come to identify with them that all is not lost and they should have faith in God,” said secretary of the group, Mrs. Tosan Amorighoye.
