BENIN—FOLLOWING the alleged fraud that trailed the recruitment of 500 teachers in Edo State, the governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, has relieved the Chairman of the Post Primary Education Board, Dr. Odein Monday, of his duties.
Vanguard was reliably informed that allegation of bribery marred the exercise which eventually brought into questioning the qualification of those who were announced to have passed the interview.
It would be recalled that in order to promote science education in schools in the state, the governor had directed the Post Primary Education Board to recruit 500 teachers who are majors in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English, Agricultural Science and other science related subjects.
Vanguard was informed that one of the top members of the Board was given marked money unknown to him. It was also learnt that some Ministry officials may have been involved in the scandal but the state Commissioner for Education, Mr Ekpenisi Omorotionwan who confirmed the removal of chairman of the Board, said he was not aware of the involvement of any Ministry official.
