THE Trade Union Congress has charged governments at all levels to embark on special agriculture programmes aimed at reducing the level of youth unemployment in the country.
The TUC also urged communities to take the lead in
setting up youth empowerment schemes that would return Nigerian youths
to agriculture.
Speaking on Wednesday while presenting a paper during a stakeholders’ meeting
organised by the Diamond Club in Emohua Local Government Area, the
Rivers State Chairman of the TUC, Mr. Chika Onuegbu, expressed the need
for communities to set up agricultural clusters.
Onuegbu said communities should replicate the Youth
Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria programme established by the
Federal Government to empower the youths.
Onuegbu said, “While we urge governments at all
levels, especially the local government to embark on special programmes
that are targeted at reducing youth unemployment through agriculture, we
urge our community to take the lead in setting up youth empowerment
schemes that would return our youth to agriculture.”
