Senate suspend probe into N195billion pension scam, indefinitely

Pensioners-300x225[1]The face off between the Chairman of the Pension Reform task team, Mr Abdulrasheed Maina and members of the Joint Senate Committee investigating pension administration got to an abrupt end on Thursday, as the Senate committee suspended further investigation into pension scam involving police, customs and immigration until further notice.
The committee reached the decision after the Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Mr Abdulrsheed Maina again failed to appear before the committee.
The committee had last week issued a warrant of arrest on Mr Maina for failing to appear before it.
Meawhile there were two different factions of protesters at the National Assembly on Thursday as supporters of Mr Maina, protested on one side, while the other faction protested for the removal of the Chairman of the pension reform task team.
The committee had accused Mr Maina of complicity in an N195billion pension scam.
The committee’s series of attempts to get Mr Maina to appear before it to explain his involvement in the pension scam has proven difficult despite the arrest warrant issued on him as he was again absent at Thursday’s public hearing.
Like the saying goes, ‘when two elephants fight, the grass suffers’, the grass in this case are the pensioners who  bear the brunt of living for months without being paid their pensions or those pensioners  who face harsh conditions trying to get their monthly pensions.
