Nigerians
have been urged to pray for the success of the merger of the Action
Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and
the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) before 2015 general elections for
the enthronement of good governance in the country.
The Head of Arabic and Islamic Studies Department, University of
Ibadan, Dr Abdul-Hafiz Oladosu, who made the call in Ibadan on Sunday at
the Maulud Nabiy lecture entitled, “Prophet Muhammed: A political
leader of exemplary character”, organised by the University of Ibadan
Muslim Graduates’ Association, noted that the country had been bedeviled
with bad leadership in the past few years.
According to him, nothing in the country has worked out positively as expected by Nigerians.
He lamented that the country’s politics had been characterised by money and violence, saying that no person with the fear of God would like to join politics.
He however, expressed the fear that the merger between the three
political parties might be difficult if not impossible because of the
characters of people involved.
“If the merger talk fails or collapses that mean the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will continue to rule the country,” he said.
In his remarks, the acting president of the association, Dr Saka
Adewumi, disclosed that no fewer than 24 students have benefitted from
the University of Ibadan Muslim Graduates’ Association scholarship
scheme, saying that N2 million had been given to indigent students in
the last three years.
He said that the scheme was borne out of the zeal of the association
to come to the aid of the indigent Muslim students in pursuing their
desire to have university education.
According to him, the scheme started in 2009/2010 academic session and N2 million has been committed to it.
