As
Nigerians continue to condemn the attacks on the Emir of Kano, Ado
Bayero that left four people dead, former military president, General
Ibrahim Babangida Sunday called for change of tactics in handling the
security challenges in the country. He also reiterated the call for
dialogue as a measure to check the activities of the religious sect, the
Boko Haram.
In a statement titled, ‘Emir of Kano’s Attack: An Alert Call’ which
he personally signed, IBB, as he is popularly called, said, “I wish to
advise the Federal Government to exploit the option of dialogue with
members of the insurgent groups in order to arrest this prevailing drift
in our national security.
The use of force has proven to be inadequate and ineffective to
checkmate this ugly trend. We must therefore put hands together to find a
more rewarding and meaningful end to this security concern”.
