abandoned_babyTwo babies abandoned by unknown mothers were on Tuesday handed over to the Zamfara Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
The babies, all boys, were found by officials of the Zamfara Social Welfare units.
The babies, believed to have been dumped by their mothers, were found at different locations in Gusau.
Hajia Bilikisu Bungudu, Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, said while receiving the babies, that it was sad that women could abandon their own babies.
“I am very sad and don’t know what else to say than to pray for God’s guidance,” she said.
Kabir Ibrahim, a Social Welfare Officer, said a middle aged woman drew the attention of the Welfare Office to one of the babies.
He said, “The baby, with a black mark on his forehead, found in Kofarjage area, was dumped 12 days ago by the road side, while the other baby was found in Tudun wada by the old airport.
“The babies were immediately taken to the local government secretariat, where they were clothed and fed.”
Ibrahim said they brought the babies to the ministry for onward delivery to the orphanage for proper care.
