Police Quiz Folarin over Alleged Stock Piling of Arms
Former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin, has been quizzed by the Oyo State police command for alleged stock piling of arms
He was also quizzed for allegedly holding nocturnal meeting with the embattled former chairman of the state National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Lateef Akinsola (aka Tokyo), to disrupt the peace of the state.
The former senate leader was reportedly grilled for more than three hours over a petition allegedly written against him.
As at the time of filing this report, the author of the said petition could not be ascertained, while Folarin described the petition as “build up to the 2015 election in the state.”
His Oluyole and Iyaganku residences were also raided by the state police command for alleged stock-piling of arms. His home was allegedly besieged by about 100 armed officers of the command.
Folarin, after his release by the police commissioner, alleged foul play on the way and manner his houses were searched by the officers, who claimed they were with search warrant to conduct thorough searches of his entire households.
He said he was on his way to Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to console with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, over the recent fire disaster at his Hilltop residence and later meet a lawyer in Lagos over his brother’s Will, when a call came that the police boss wanted to see him over a petition bothering on security.
The former Senate leader, who was in company of his wife, Angela, Chief Lekan Balogun, the incumbent Deputy Senate Whip, Hosea Ayoola Agboola, former Deputy-Governor of the state, Azeem Gbolarumi; Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum, Muraina Ajibola, PDP Chairman in the state, Yinka Taiwo, and Tajudeen Abass Alesinloye to the Eleyele police command, said he was stunned that politicians could resort to blackmail just three days in 2013, when 2015 was still far away.
On his alleged romance with Tokyo, Folarin said his relationship with the embattled NURTW boss was just that of an Ibadan brother, stressing that the last two occasions he saw Tokyo were during the burial of Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s mother and the fidau of his late brother, Alhaji Suleman Emiola, respectively.
Folarin, who said he was still mourning his late brother, ondered why anybody could link him to NURTW members an an attempt to disrupt the peace of the state.
“My relationship with Tokyo is just purely of an Ibadan man to another Ibadan man. Let us take it cool as politicians after all, 2015 is still far away. Power comes from God. I know this has political undertone. It could have come from anywhere not only from the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) but also my party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as well.
“I am still bereaved because I am mourning my only elder blood brother. How would I have thought or caused breach of the peace of my darling state? Everybody knows I am non-violent person. I am an easy going and my type of politics is always issues-based. And coincidentally, the ACP who quizzed me is my neighbour and I asked him have you ever seen me harbouring thugs or fomenting trouble with anybody in our area?
“All that happened nevertheless, I salute the courage of the police commissioner and his team of professional officers for the way and manner they handled the matter. It shows nobody is big or above the law of the land. And I must also appeal to our politicians to always take it easy and allow God’s wish to manifest in our plans and aspirations. Power comes from God alone,” he added.
