ABEOKUTA—An Abeokuta Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo,
yesterday ordered that a 45-year-old rape suspect, Taofeek Kolawole be
remanded in prison custody till Friday, March 1, 2013.
The suspect, who is a security guard with a Chinese company was
arrested last Thursday for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl at Kemta
Housing Estate, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, OgunState capital.
During his arraignment ,Counsel to the accused person, Tajudeen
Idris, prayed the court to grant his client bail on the ground that the
alleged offence was bailable, but, his plea was however, rejected by
Magistrate Idowu Olayinka.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Osimirin however, told the
court that Kolawole unlawfully had carnal knowlege of the 12- year old
girl and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 218 of
the Criminal Code vol 1 Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria 2006.
In his ruling, Magistrate Olayinka told the defence counsel to file
an application for bail and serve both the Director for Public
Prosecution, DPP, and the police and ordered that, the accused be
remanded in prisons, till the next hearing date on Friday.
