Authorities
of Nigeria’s University of Benin (UNIBEN) have warned all female
students of the institution against all form of indecent dressing in the
name of fashion.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Osayuki Osodin, gave the warning Friday,
during the 2012/2013 matriculation ceremony of the institution.
Prof. Oshodin said the trend was disgusting as it has been identified
to be one of the major factors responsible for cases of sexual
harassment experienced by students.
He therefore admonished all female students to always appear
responsible by dressing modestly and appropriately at all gatherings,
even as he warned that the University would not tolerate any form of
examination malpractice and other misconduct, adding that the
institution was ready to apply appropriate sanctions against offenders.
Worried about activities of members of cult groups within and outside
the University’s campuses, Prof. Oshodin warned that the institution’s
security network was ready for them.
“The burning issue of cultism is of great concern to the University. I
know some of you may have been initiated into one cult group or the
other before you gained admission into this institution, let it be know to you that the our security network will fish you out,” he warned.
A total of 5,915 students who subscribed to relevant matriculation
oath for the 2012/2013 academic session at the ceremony, were charged to
be loyal and true to the matriculation oath of obedience and respect to
the authority of the University, and to protect and guard their new
status jealously, and avoid any unwholesome behavior that may pose
threat to the peace and progress of the University.
