Igbo should forget presidency in 2015 –Cleric

Igbo-leaders1Politicians of Igbo extraction nursing an ambition for the presidency of the country in 2015 have been advised to shelve such an ambition as it may be ill-timed.
The Bishop and General Overseer of the House of God International Church and President of the Young Igbo Christian Ministers Congress, Athan Azubuike, gave the advice in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Wednesday.
Azubuike, who is reported to have prophesied the emergence of Goodluck Jonathan as president of Nigeria in 2008, said the caution to Igbo politicians was prompted by a divine revelation he received that until 2019 and beyond, no Igbo man would be president of Nigeria.
He also warned that unless the Igbos put their house in order and purge themselves of disunity, greed and conflicting interests, their quest for the nation’s number one seat would continue to remain elusive.
He said the YICMIC was put in place for clergymen of Igbo extraction to be actively involved in shaping the fortunes and leadership of the Igbo race through coalition and complimenting the roles and ideologies of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, the Ohaneze Ndigbo.
However, the cleric stated that politics and leadership could not be left alone for politicians, as had been the practice.
He said, “It is our responsibility to continually bring the Igbo nation before God and stand in the gap for them like the children of Isacchar in the Bible who understood time and season. Suffice it to say that without us, it would be difficult for an Igbo man to be president of Nigeria.”
