Indonesia is said to be the world’s largest palm oil producer and one of the world’s top cocoa producers.
Indonesian Industry Minister, Mohammad Hidayat, said this at Vice-President Namadi Sambo’s office when the Indonesian President, Susilo Yudhoyono, came to Nigeria on a two-day state visit recently.
He said, “Nigeria has offered land to us, no matter the size we need, because it needs to cooperate with us in the agro-based industry, such as developing palm oil, cocoa and other commodities plantations.
“We want to have lands there, and have processing industry there and we will import it to Indonesia as our products.”
Hidayat noted that President Yudhoyono had set up a team to study the offer.
Yudhoyono had visited Nigeria between February 2 and 3 and held talks with President Goodluck Jonathan.
Both leaders had also agreed to promote training cooperation involving military officers of both countries; cooperate closely in exchange of information, training and education on terrorism; and agricultural cooperation, especially on cocoa, palm oil, groundnut and rubber plantations in the two countries.
