Ogun
State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday advocated active
involvement of professionals in partisan politics as a way of pulling
Nigeria out of its social and economic crisis.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the
Governor, Funmi Wakama, Amosun spoke at the fourth edition of the Lagos
Business School’s Project What Next series, held at the Lekki, Lagos campus of the institution.
The governor said the nation’s challenges had been well documented.
He said, “The political landscape has yet to record a critical mass
of professionals with active partisan participation. I mean People who
will dream new dreams, articulate ideas and bring in the discipline
required for execution.
“When professionals decline to actively engage the system, avoiding
getting directly involved or actively participating in the political
process, they unwittingly create an environment for the emergence of
leaders that are not the best among us.
“After all, nature abhors vacuum. The professionals will then not
have the moral right to query the way and how they are governed.”
The governor, in his lecture titled, ‘A voyage powered by
Conviction’, expressed optimism that the present docile approach by
professionals would soon fade away. He commended the role recently
played by the Save Nigeria Group.
He said, “The roles played by the Save Nigeria Group during the
period of absence due to the health challenges of late President Umaru
Yar Adua speak about the potency of the power of professionals to
galvanise national consciousness and action for the common good.”
