APC govs, merger committee meet today

APCAll Progressive Congress governors and the party’s merger committee are to meet in Abuja on Tuesday (today) to deliberate on crucial issues affecting the newly formed political group.
The meeting, which will hold at the residence of a chief of the party, is however going to be in the night.
Findings by our correspondent showed that the governors are to brief the committee on their last Thursday’s visit to Maiduguri, Borno State.
A source close to the party leadership said the meeting would also deliberate “on the political gains of the visit”.
Besides, the governors would also get feedback from the various committees set up to produce the party’s constitution and manifesto.
The committees inaugurated on February 20, had a mandate to get the items ready in two weeks’ time.
The three committees are the Constitution, Manifesto, Legal and Constitutional Compliance group. The last will handle documentations on how to the party will meet the requirements of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Each committee has 20 members each.
A member of the Constitution committee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the members would present draft copies for harmonisation at the meeting.
He said, “Though we have not sat together to really work on the constitution, but each and every one of us has been working together by using the Internet to sort things out.
“We have asked ourselves to devote our energies on the areas we are verse in and then come on Tuesday to harmonise.
“The issue of meeting the deadline may not arise, because we are still going to present the draft to the joint merger committee for harmonisation.”
