Former
Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has pledged to build a fully
furnished, two hundred-seat lecture theatre for the Department of
Political Science of the University of Ibadan. This followed a request
by the University made to the former Vice President.
The new facility is to be built at the university’s new campus at
Ajibode and is to be christened “Atiku Abubakar Lecture Theatre.”
The former Vice President also accepted the acting Vice Chancellor,
Professor Idowu Olayinka’s request to give the university a bus as well
as the Dean, Social Sciences, Professor A. Yagboyaju’s request for him
to renovate the already run-down lecture theatre of that faculty.
In making the commitments, Atiku said his greatest passion at the moment is education, promising that he would continue to promote it all over Nigeria.
He invited the University of Ibadan, the country’s oldest university
to accept an invitation for exchange programme with the American
University of Nigeria, Yola which Atiku founded.
The former Vice President was at the University to deliver a lecture
entitled “Thoughts on Internal Democracy in Nigerian Political Parties,”
as part of the 50th Anniversary of the Department of Political Science.
