Asaba—DELTA State Government, yesterday, said it had approached
the National Pension Commission to call some Pension Fund
administrators to order for unduly delaying payments to retirees already
cleared, so as to engender the required confidence in the contributory
pension scheme.
Speaking at the presentation of payment advice to some retirees by
Oak Pensions Limited, under the contributory pension scheme in Asaba,
yesterday, Chairman, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Mrs. Patience
Ikomi, said: “To get to this stage, the Bureau worked tirelessly to
establish a data base for council workers and primary school teachers in
the state. This had facilitated the deductions at source of the 10 per
cent and 7.5 per cent government’s and employees’ contributions
respectively as well as the five percent redemption fund with effect
from April 1, 2011.
“It has helped to determine the value of the past services of
employees’ accrued rights, who transited into the new scheme with effect
from that date.
It is a sore point to note that some Pension Fund Administrators, PFAs,
have unduly delayed payments to retirees already cleared by the Bureau.
The Bureau is taking up this matter with the National Pension Commission, Abuja. I appeal
to such PFAs to brace up to ensure that retirees’ benefits are released
without unwarranted delays to engender the required confidence in the
scheme.”
