Ondo Gov offers automatic jobs to 10 varsity graduates

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun MimiKo, on Friday offered automatic employment to 10 students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, who graduated with a First Class during the fourth convocation of the institution. Mimiko, who is the Visitor to the university, announced the gesture while delivering his speech on the occasion when 5,503 graduates were awarded various degrees of the institution.
Also on the occasion, three eminent Nigerians – Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi, Maj-Gen. Olufemi Olutoye (retd); and Prof. Toyin Falola – were confered with honorary doctorate degree of the university.
Mimiko commended the First Class graduates and asked them to report at the state civil service commission for their letters of employment if they wished to work with the state government.
He noted that education remained the potent tool to address the problem of poverty, hunger and joblessness which remained a major challenge to government at all levels.
He also said authorities of the Ajasin varsity had introduced entrepreneurial studies in the institution’s curriculum in order to remain relevant in the ever changing challenges in education and to meet international best practices.
He therefore urged the academic staff of the institution to concentrate on research to improve their knowledge.
He said, “The state government will on its part, concentrate on the provision of necessary funding for research and for infrastructural development within the campus to make learning conducive for the students”
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Pro. Femi Mimiko, commended the state government for it’s adequate funding since 2009 till date, which, he said, was unprecedented in the history of the young institution.
He said the university for instance, had taken delivery of equipment and facilities other it’s e-library which could allow students have access to over two million books any time.
He said, “This initiative would ccompletely open a new vista for teaching and learning that we would ever be able to hope for, from a physical library.”
The VC said over 30 various developmental projects are on-going and the various stages of completion at the university while six completed one’s had been inaugurated by the governor.
