11,000 Bayelsa youths renounce cultism

Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson, on Wednesday said over 11,000 youths from the eight local governments of the state had renounced their membership of cult groups.

Dickson, who spoke at the Banquet Hall, Yenagoa, during a meeting with youth representatives, described the development  as a product of his administration’s Restoration Agenda.
He warned the youth against engaging in criminal activities, noting that no state  thrived in an atmosphere of chaos.
Condemning the killing of security operatives at Azuzuama in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, he said the government would not allow insecurity to affect the investment potential of the state.
He said a Youth Summit would soon be organised for repentant cultists as a step to reintegrate into the society.
He warned youths against being used by selfish and position-seeking politicians to foment trouble in the state,.
He said, “Let me warn some of you that it is not yet time for politics and politicking. We will not tolerate such activities in the system for now. We want to perform. When it is time for politics, you will hear from us.”
