The Action Congress of Nigeria and the Peoples Democratic Party have disagreed over the debt profile and the level of infrastructural development in Osun State.
A statement by the Chairman, Osun PDP, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, on Thursday in Osogbo, accused the Rauf Aregbesola administration of plundering Osun into unnecessary debt.
Olaoluwa also accused the state government of making empty promises – an allegation debunked by ACN’s Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, in a statement on Thursday.
The ACN spokesperson also debunked the allegation by Olaoluwa that Aregbesola was planning to Islamise Osun, by obtaining a loan from an unnamed foreign Islamic bank.
Oyatomi said, “The Federal Government-controlled Central Bank of Nigeriagave approval only in March for business and corporate institutions to access bonds from Islamic banking institutions in the world.
“If accessing such funds means Islamising Nigeria or any part of it, then, anyone who thinks in that direction should have himself examined. Osun PDP is roiling in pathetic confusion.
“Only last week, Federal Minister of Finance and Head of the Economic Team of the PDP-led Federal Government, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said that Osun, under Aregbesola, is a model of disciplined financial management in the country.”
