THE Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Otelemaba Amachree, has attributed the inability of the state lawmakers to sit and discuss issues affecting the state insecurity.
Amachree said members of the state legislature might not be able to meet soon if their security could not be guaranteed.
The State House of Assembly has not been able to reconvene since political crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party in the state began in April.
It will be recalled that 27 out of the 32 members of the House had suspended the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Mr. Timothy Nsirim, the vice chairman and 17 councillors for an financial recklessness.
The development coupled with an Abuja Court ruling that sacked the Chief Godspower Ake-led executive of the PDP and the suspension of 27 pro-Amaechi lawmakers from the party had sparked the crisis currently affecting the state.
Speaking with The PUNCH through his Press Secretary, Mr. Jim Okpiki, on Sunday, Amachree described the invasion of the House Assembly by a group of youths, loyal to the new executive of the state PDP on May 6, 2013, as a sign that the security of lawmakers could not be guaranteed in the Assembly complex.
