Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala
Mohammed, said the administration demolished 296 housing estates
structures in the Kyami district of Abuja following due process and with
a view to protecting the sanctity of the Abuja master plan.
The
minister, in a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Muhammad
Sule, said instead of the rumoured 500 houses, the administration pulled
down 296.
He gave the details to include Minanuel Estate, 198; Isvin Estate, 13; Jo-Afra, 54 and Grow-Insight, 6.
According
to the statement, “the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA)
has reacted to reports that the recent demolition of illegal structures
in the Kyami district of the Abuja along the Airport Road did not follow
due process.
“The minister said that Kyami District where the
affected structures were located, falls within the Phase V of the
Federal Capital City, Abuja and the law is clear.
“According to
him, the FCT development control discovered these illegal developments
at their embryo stage and were swiftly told to stop work on August 20,
2011 with an instruction for the estate developer (Minanuel Estate) to
present the title document for the plot, approved building plan, as well
as comprehensive development plan which the developer disregarded
“It
is worth mentioning that at the early stage, the FCTA made frantic
efforts to discourage the continuation of these illegal developments by
removing their sub-structures and covering the excavations done, but
after a while, the developers went back to site and resumed illegal
developments at a frenzied speed.”
