Commission urges equal opportunities for Nigerians

The Federal Character Commission has said its principle guiding recruitment into the country’s public service supports equal opportunity and healthy competition.
This was contained in a statement issued by an Assistant Director and Head of Protocol, Communication Department of the commission, Mr. Chuks Okoli.
The statement which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Abuja read, “The principle of the commission is meant to support, nurture and maintain a healthy competition, which will give good reputation to our image.
“The FCC, however, stresses the need for the application of the commission’s principle at all levels of government, including cabinet appointments and appointments into political party offices.’’
It stated that the commission was established to redress imbalances in recruitment and distribution of social amenities through effective monitoring and enforcement of the application of its principle.
According to Okoli, the aims and objectives of the principle are to unite the nation.
He added that the guideline would give citizens a sense of belonging and entrench equal opportunity for a sustainable democracy.
“The commission is working to ensure that all MDAs were sensitised to the need to comply with its principles in their recruitment through interactive meetings. The meeting is to sensitise organisations to abiding by the laid principle because the commission could cancel recruitment not based on its principles or sanction the defaulting organisations,” he said.
