Don’t make constitution review mere political jamboree, NUJ warns

THE Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has warned the National Assembly members not to see the ongoing constitution review exercise as a mere political jamboree.
This was part of the decisions reached by the NUJ while reviewing the state  of the nation during its monthly congress held on Saturday and presided over by its chairman, Comrade Gbenga Opadotun.
From the observations gathered by journalists,  the union members noted that the exercise was a political jamboree intended only to justify the funds made available to National Assembly members, stressing that “positions appeared to have already been taken by the legislature”.
To this end, the union appealed to the government to ensure that the review of the constitution did not end on a “business as usual”, saying the decision of the people should reflect in the review and final amendment.
On fuel subsidy, the NUJ said the prosecutions of the suspected oil thieves had not proper, decrying the ongoing negotiations been made by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with the accused persons and companies.
