‘Ex-LG boss ordeal, politically-motivated’

A group, Eziogu Clan of Ebiraland, has backed the ex-chairman of Okene Local Government Area, Yahaya Karaku, arrested by security agents in the wake of the Okene church killings last August.
The group made this known in a communiqué at the end of its meeting in Kano on Sunday.
In the communique signed by its President-General, Alhaji Zubairu Abdullah, the group alleged that the attempt to indict the former chairman was politically-motivated.
The group noted that some mischief makers and fortune seekers were trying to use the incident to settle some political differences.
Part of the communique read, “Notable Ebira elite have constituted a baseline for false allegation against Yahaya Karaku in an attempt to douse his rising political profile in Kogi State.
“The scenario today is the glaring and unjustified hatred visited on the clan through lies and deceit, while those involved in the ‘pull-him-down’ game left little or no room for security agents to conduct robust investigations.”
Meanwhile, the group has commended the Inspector-General of Police for deploying professionals in getting to the roots of the matter.
